Georgetown, Texas is located near the center of the state. According to the latest census, the population of Georgetown is 47,400. The city may be best known for the Inner Space Cavern located just outside the south part of the city. A large retirement village called Sun City is also located in Georgetown and contributes to the local population. Geographically speaking, Georgetown is located on flat fertile land that is used for crops in the surrounding area. Part of the city is located in what is considered the hilly country. The climate in Georgetown is humid subtropical. This means the summers can be very hot while the winters are very mild as compared to the rest of the US. The Georgetown economy largely began emerging as a strong force when Interstate 35 found its route through the city. The Inner Space Cavern is likely the biggest attraction in the area. Several Ice Age animals have been found in the cavern, preserved for thousands of years. The cavern wasn't discovered until the 1960s, which helped to keep its pristine condition. Today visitors can traverse more than a mile's worth of the cavern. Georgetown also has several public parks where families can enjoy outdoor activities or an afternoon picnic.
