Gun Barrel City is in Henderson County in east Texas, just 55 miles from the city of Dallas. Started as a reservoir-side community in 1969, Gun Barrel had grown to a population size of 60 within its first year and over 3,000 by the early '90s. The city gets its name from the community's motto "We Shoot Straight With You" and the rifle which acts as the city's official symbol.
