Provo, Utah was founded in 1849 by 33 families from Salt Lake City, Utah. To this day, Provo, Utah is a haven for devout Latter Day Saints in the area known as "Happy Valley." With a population that is over 95% Mormon, Provo, Utah is a wonderful place to raise your children in the Latter Day Saints (LDS) tradition. This includes powerful encouragement in the community for traditional roles for young men and women and a strong emphasis on family life and conservative values that begins in the schools from as early as pre-kindergarten.
Provo, Utah is in a valley and surrounded by large, craggy mountaintops and filled in with many streams and rivers. The views are breathtakingly beautiful and peaceful even in the middle of the downtown area which is kept clear of unsavory businesses and individuals thanks to well worded city ordinances. The town also has several parks that are great for both children and adults to enjoy, including a scenic walkway along the Provo River that winds its way through the city for 14 miles and connects Utah Lake State Park with Vivian Park in Provo Canyon. The Provo River Parkway runs through the "backyards" of many area restaurants and businesses many of whom have set up park benches for their customer's enjoyment); it also runs alongside several parks that have parking and amusements for children, such as slides, swings and duck ponds.
