About Riverton

Riverton, Utah, is a city located in Salt Lake City. In fact, it is actually part of Salt Lake City itself, being located particularly in the Southwestern part of the city. The population of the city, as of the estimates given in the 2008 Census, is 39,751. Riverton is considered to be one of the fastest growing cities in Utah; it was ranked by CNN Magazine as being the 60th best places to live in the USA as recent as 2005. According the previously mentioned census, Riverton also has an estimated 12.6 square miles, which is equivalent to 32.6 kilometers. It has normal winter months with snow and during the summer months, it can get as hot as 100 degrees F.

Its history dates back to the mid-1850s, when the first settlers began to inhabit what was then basically rural land. It is believed that one of the earliest settlers was an Archibald Gardner; in which the city was originally named Gardnerville. Later, its name was changed to Riverton; the name origin appears to be uncertain, although some seem to believe that it could possibly have been named such because of the growing irrigation of water there, which caused the land to grow in population. For man years, Riverton was mostly a rural farmland, but in recent decades it has been transformed into more urbanized surroundings. In fact, today, it is a booming city with various ethnicities; 96% White, 0.22 % African American; 0.24 % Native American; 0.65 Asian American; and 1.02 % of other ethnicities.

It is predominantly a middle-class community, with the median salary being an estimated $63, 980 for the average family. It has six elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school, Riverton High School, which is the most populated school in Utah. In fact, it is so overcrowded that school parking is limited; not all students are allowed to park at the school. A new high school is presently under construction that will facilitate this problem. Riverton is a beautiful place that tourists are invited to see; it is also a place of many cultural interests and well as other sightseeing areas.
