South Jordan, UT, is a city located in the state of Utah. It is located between the Salt Lake Valley and between the Qquirrh Mountains and the Watsach Mountains, and is a part of the Salt Lake City metropolitan area. As of its 2010 Census, the city's population was an estimated 50,418. The weather here is basically four-seasoned; it gets very cold in the winter months, with snow, and it can go over 100 F in the summer months.
The city's Jordan River flows through the above mentioned valley near the Jordan River Parkway that has parks, fishing ponds, and park trails as well as natural habitat. The history of the city dates back to 1859, when it was founded 18 miles of Salt Lake City, by Mormon settlers. The name Jordan River is apparently Biblically based. Like many parts of the state, it started out as a rural territory, but in time as the city grew, it eventually came to be urbanized. There is still some farmland left, but because of increased urbanization, particularly since 1950, this has greatly decreased its acres being down to 108,000 acres as opposed to nearly 500,000 over 40 years earlier.The town has a total of 21 square inch miles, and is a city of a number of ethnicities, being 93.6 % Whites; 0.5 % African Americans; 0.3 % Native American; 1.8 % Asian; 0.6 % Pacific American as well as 1.2 % of other ethnicities and 1.9 % from other groups.
The city's median salary is $94, 248, making it a middle classed community. It has six elementary schools, two middle schools, and three high schools. It also has one charter school and three private schools. It also has numerous colleges and universities. South Jordan is also a beautiful, scenic place, having 27 municipal parks and playgrounds, with various amenities, including baseball and softball fields, soccer, and lacrosse fields, as well as volleyball, tennis courts, and a skating park.
