Franconia, Virginia is located in Fairfax County and is considered to be part of the Northern Virginia metro area. It is a bedroom community to Washington D.C. Franconia is the last stop of the metro train (the blue line) that runs from Washington, D.C. to suburban Virginia. It is located about 20 miles south of the Nation's Capital, just southwest of the city of Alexandria, Virginia .Franconia is the home to the Springfield Mall. The population of the area decreased between the 2000 and 2010 censuses due to the splitting of the community into the Kingstowne segment. Franconia includes 7 densely populated acres.
Franconia encompasses a number of neighborhoods such as Manchester Lakes, Hayfield and Windsor Park. It also has half of the Kingstowne subdivision area included in its jurisdiction. It extends to the border with Fort Belvoir slightly south of the region. Franconia took it's name from a railroad stop with that name in the 1870s. Franconia has a median income of 100,000 dollars. It is home to a number of federal workers who find it convenient to live in. It is a diverse suburban metro area with businesses and restaurants. It is also an exit on I95, so it is easy for travelers to get to. Franconia is a well kept community and features a small recreational lake.
